The future is more exciting than you think

Wherever I travel, I see this overwhelming sense of pessimism for the future. Living is expensive, massive layoffs, AI is taking over our jobs, and it's all rich people's fault.
Relax. The former 2 you can't control, and the latter 2 aren't true. Instead what's happening is a great time of change. Things are less stable than they used to be, and therefore more stressful, especially if you're a millennial or younger. But that doesn't mean new opportunities aren't out there, especially as AI, crypto, and other tools keep improving.
In the last year I've iterated on at least 10 different prototypes for companies, redesigned my website 3 times, created a workout app to my personal liking, and am now in the process of designing a bookmark/article aggregator so I don't need to switch between Substack, blogs, X, and other sites to read interesting articles. All on top of my day job, which has its own stories worth telling in a future post. If you traveled back 5 years, any one of these would've taken weeks, months, or even years to develop. That doesn't mean AI is without its faults. But like the very first design of the automobile, we're in a rare window of new opportunities that will take time to play out.
That doesn't mean life is going to get easier, you still have to work hard to see the change you want in the world. But the possibilities have never been so myriad as they are now. That should excite everyone, yet I see Americans stuck in the same learned-helplessness loops. It's not entirely your fault, we have systems and past experiences that tend to make us feel like we can't do anything about our circumstances. But you can. My hope is that in the next few series of blog posts I can make you more hopeful about the future by showing you a few examples of how you can learn and build with AI. Whether you're a solid programmer or not, it's what you want to build that matters. And relax, my intent isn't to be another AI bro. It'll be less of "What is AI?" and "How can I best use AI?" and more of "Here's what I learned thanks to AI". Sprinkled with more health posts and other things I'm curious about.
